Or maybe he wasn’t Jewish, we just don’t know why he is in Jerusalem but there he is, caught up in the crowd watching Jesus trying to carry his cross to Golgotha – the site of his execution. I don’t see a reason why would the gospel writers obfuscate a person like Simon Magus/Paul/Marcion with a gospel character like Simon of Cyrene.
